Colocolo – The Clinic Cat: Our ambassador for all life forms on this planet.

Introducing “Colocolo” – the clinic cat. He is about 12 yr old, loves food and petting. He was brought in for euthanasia, but we fell in love with him. His medical condition was treatable but because of some unfortunate circumstances the owner was not able to take care of Colocolo. After some testing, medicines and lots of love he is feeling much better and is now part of Harmony Pet Clinic team. He is big cat (~19lbs!). Colocolo is the best company we can ask for in the clinic. He cheers us and is a very happy cat.

We deliberated for about a week about his new name as a clinic cat. After lot of discussion and fun we came up with the name ‘Colocolo’ which is another name for Pampas Cat. The Pampas cat (Leopardus colocola) is a small wild cat native to South America. It is listed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List as habitat conversion and destruction may cause the population to decline in the future. We decided the name ‘Colocolo’ to raise awareness about animals affected by loss of habitat as a result of deforestation or other human activities.

We decided the name Colocolo to raise awareness about animals affected by loss of habitat as a result of deforestation or other human activities.

Although at Harmony Pet Clinic we work with mainly cats and dogs but we strongly believe that all animals have a right to live. Our actions should have minimal impact on animals and nature around us. Current human activities including deforestation is one major reason for extinction of species. Loss of habitat is the leading cause of extinction of wildlife. The following figure indicates that more species are going extinct in the post industrialization era:

Our actions, no matter how big or small, do matter in the bigger scheme of things. We request our readers and followers to make the required lifestyle changes so that we don’t disturb precious nature around us and give other animals and species a chance to live their life. Following figure indicates that collective human actions can help preserve the lives not only in the veterinary clinics but also in the wild (blue part of the bars indicate the increased population of endangered species from human conservation actions):
